Don Leone
Don Leone is a raw, rough-edged blues project born from the encounter between Donato Cherchi and Matteo Leone. Formed in 2016 in the Sulcis area, the duo immediately began an intense live activity, first in Sardinia and then beyond the island, releasing the EP "Welcome to South West" with Talk About Records. In 2017, the duo won the Italian Blues Challenge and, in early 2018, performed in Memphis at the International Blues Challenge. During the same period, they travelled through Mississippi and Louisiana, bringing their music into the heart of American blues, an experience documented in "The Search".
Don Leone’s journey then continued across Europe: from the final stage of the European Blues Challenge in Hell, Norway, to the Sziget Festival in Budapest, as well as festivals such as Narcao Blues, Dal Mississippi al Po Blues Festival, Campania Blues Festival, Mojo Station Blues Festival and Blues Rules. Over the years, Don Leone has shared the stage with artists such as Cedric Burnside, Watermelon Slim and Vieux Farka Tourè.
After several years on separate paths, Donato Cherchi and Matteo Leone reunited in early 2025 to record new music and return to performing together, with a more mature sound that remains faithful to an electric blues made by hand in the south of Sardinia.
